I LOVE crazy travel stories. The kind that you share with great friends Some of my all-time favorite travel adventures include the bad bus tour through Israel, drinking with skinheads in Budapest, and negotiating my friend's prospective marriages to Berber merchants in Morocco. I'm determined to come back from this trip with a bunch more.
Recently, I was talking with a friend who shares my love for travel adventure, and we talked a bit about what makes for a really great travel story. We agreed that great travel adventures almost always involve other people, and don't usually arise from something you had planned to do in a certain way. By putting down the guidebook and spending as much time as possible talking to other people, you leave yourself more open to fun and possibilities. You also run a higher risk of getting lost, but the world is full of people who can help you.
In that spirit, one of my goals for the trip is to break out of my solo traveller cocoon as much as I can. Start conversations with random strangers. Spend time doing what local people do. Planning less and enjoying more.
